With many families in Endwa having an incredibly low income it is
often impossible for them to afford to send their children to
school!
In the UK we take free
education for all for granted. We assume that all our children
will have the opportunity for a standard of education that will
enable them as adults to earn a decent living and support their
families.
In
Ghana this is not the case, parents have to pay for uniforms,
fees, materials and text books. Many families in Endwa have such
an incredibly low income that it is impossible for them to pay for
these extras in order to send their children
to school. Unless some way is found to change things for
this generation of children, the cycle of poverty and deprivation
will continue.
A
year ago these children were without education and without hope.
Thanks to the generosity of sponsors they are finishing their
first year at school and are progressing well with their studies.

By European standards schooling in Ghana is incredibly cheap. For
as little as £116 you can sponsor a child for a full academic year at a
primary or junior school and for £171 at Junior Secondary level.
This covers all expenses including materials, uniform and shoes or
sandals plus a good breakfast for the student and gives them a far brighter future. Put more starkly, for roughly the cost of a takeaway coffee you can
send a child to school for a week. So little to pay for so much gain!
You will be able to choose which child(ren) to sponsor and will be encouraged to write to them but
please bear in mind that many cannot yet read or write. Replies
might be a little delayed!
You can pay either monthly, quarterly, annually or in a lump sum. If you also
complete a Gift Aid form, your contribution will go even further
as the government will allow us to reclaim the tax you have
already paid, thus enabling us to support more children.
You
sponsorship money will be paid directly to the school so you can
be sure it really is spent on education. Finally we ask you to
commit to this sponsorship for at least three years to give each
child the best chance of benefiting from a continuing
programme of education.
